What most private jet charter clients seem to overlook is if you have a high limit credit card such as a American Express you don’t need a jet card. Most every jet charter company offers a jet card and it is mainly for the benefit of the jet company not yours.
Why then do they offer jet cards? Basically it will take you off the market and tie you to one jet charter company for a period of time or amount of flight hours. They only have to sell or impress you once, then you are contractually obligated for all your future business.
Why do you need a jet card? You don’t, payments for private charters can be handled with any credit card or wire transfer of funds. Independent Jets allows you to pay the day of your charter and for just that charter. Jet card companies require you to pay in advance and for 25 hours or more of flight time.
In addition larger jet card companies with hundreds of jet card holders can amass huge sums of money when each client is paying $125,000.00 or more for just the 25 hour card on a light jet such as a Hawker 400XP, Learjet 45 or Citation V. If the company has 200 clients this can total up to 25 million dollars. Remember this money is just sitting in their bank not yours, you receive no interest or own no portion of the company. Now you can see how these companies have such large ads in WSJ, offer complimentary catering and provide VIP parties. Not only are you paying upfront you are paying 20 to 30% over the current rate for a private jet charter.

Sure it would be easier to tie clients into a binding contract, acquire significant monies up front, but that is not how we have modeled our business.
